I LOVED When Women Were Dragons. Along similar lines: Once and Future Witches. I couldn't put it down. I sobbed. I raged. I felt actual chills. I laugh/cried about the notion that men took pockets away from women so we couldn't stash away little feathers and bits of wax and other things for making magic.

Hmm I just changed my monthly to yearly but it charged me $50. I used the link and saw no option for the discount.

Thanks for your info. I unsubscribed you. It may take a little time to get through the system, but it says it sent you the email about being unsubscribed.

Hi Cheryl, you have to use the link embedded in this post, or it won't work. If you would like me to cancel your subscription so you can resubscribe, I think I can do that. I need some more info to find your account though. Can you tell me part of the name in your email so I can search for it? I don't need your full email and I will delete your comment after you leave it, but I just need part of it to search for it. Here is the link to resubscribe once that is done. https://vajenda.substack.com/subscribe?coupon=16db2f45&utm_content=

Wait, you got married?! Congratulations! I have no idea when this happened (maybe I missed it) but I’ve always seen Dr. Jen Adjacent referred to as your partner so this is very happy news, in a non-patriarchal way 😜 . Love the gift suggestions, especially the Fuck mug. Because that’s the word of our time, isn’t it?

I am monthly subscriber and tried to take advantage of your annual subscription offer but it won’t let me. I unsubscribed yesterday in the hope that today I would be able to sign up, but it still tells me I have an active subscription. Can you help me? I’d love to get the 30% off <3

(Tech support for Jen here). It looks like substack is forcing existing subscribers to cancel (even their monthly) and then re-subscribed. Try to cancel, and then re-subscribe. That has worked for other folks. Give it a few hours after you cancel to try again because some of the substack systems don’t refresh immediately. If that doesn’t work, post a message here and I will see what I can do.

Thanks! It worked

I canceled my subscription, then clicked to cancel immediately. I went back and clicked the link in the email and was able to subscribe for the lower price. I lost about a week of my paid monthly term. (My next payment was set for Dec. 5)

Looking forward to your new book, I plan to get my wife a copy and then read it after she’s done. She’s an OB/GYN. I would also recommend a fashionable work boot company started by a great friend of ours here in Philly - Juno Jones. Our friend and female entrepreneur also hosts a podcast in which she interviews women leaders in their fields, often those traditionally dominated by men. I’ve forwarded your gift idea list to her, too 😊

And the Philly version of the awesome Winnipeg sass goes like this:

“Philly. No one likes us. We don’t care.”

I am concerned about the safety of using the Aquis hair towels. I read that copper containing textiles may play a role in increasing rates of copper toxicity, which can cause accelerated cognitive aging along with other unpleasantries. Do you know where I might find reliable information on the safety of this product that you so enthusiasticly endorse?

This comment is regarding a couple of previous articles you have included (all are very good and informative). You mention in one article you would not treat anyone 65 or over that age yet a subsequent article you state you would not presribe oral estrogen to anyone who is 65 only transdermal. Sorry I find this to be slightly confusing as you seemed to be adamant that you would only allow HRT for a short time (unless vaginal products) for women within 10 years. NAMS states the same thing but also some of the experts from NAMS are suggesting starting it again at 65 for quality of life seems to be fine. When you have time could you clarify please. Thanks

I would generally not start someone over 65 on estrogen. Perhaps it was in the case of someone who is already on estrogen and was taking oral, and in that situation, I would really try to switch them to transdermal. Or if it were someone who is 65 and their period stopped at age 59. In that case, I could be persuaded that they had a low ASCVD. There is no new cardiac safety data since the latest NAMS guidelines came out in 2022, so anyone who is routinely starting women who are more than ten years from their last period or over 65 on MHT isn't following gudelines.

Thank you for responding. You are saying that the average age of 51 should not be used when it comes to the10 years post the transition. I know several women in their late 50's who have not gone through menopause yet. If a woman is over 65 and went through the transition in her late 50's then treatment after 65 is still an option.

Over age 65 would take a very in-depth discussion and a close weighing of other risks and reasons for starting. The data shows an increased risk of dementia. So, saying it is an option doesn't really explain the in-depth discussion it would take. Also, it would be important to make sure that bleeding at 58 or 59 is truly menstruation and not post-menopausal bleeding. So, it is not a question that can be answered in this kind of format.

https://www.girlsgonestrong.com/ - what is your opinion on this menopause “certification”?This is being shared in a FB group I belong to. Unfortunately there are some predatory types who have infiltrated and keep trying to promote their side hustles in menopause “expertise”. It’s so frustrating. It’s like whack-a-mole trying to report them all.

Can I renew at the discounted price? According to my data on the site, I'm not due to resubscribe till 11/2024, but you've accessed my old credit card # (& apparently haven't found out yet that it's not working...).

Tech support for Jen here. We don’t have full control of everything as it all runs through substack. You can do what others have done and cancel your subscription and then resubscribe at the discounted rate. I don’t know what substack will do in terms of a refund for the remainder of your year but it sounds like they have tried to charge an old card anyway and have not yet figured out they should cancel your subscription. Try that first and if that doesn’t work you can repost here.

OMG, Are you causing me to buy my first pair of heels in years, Dr. Jen? Spectators, no less? 15% of sales will be donated to "volunteer-led organization dedicated to providing menstrual products to remote northern Indigenous communities across Canada." I am so bad at Christmas shopping - I only find cool gifts for me. Anywho - thanks? Looks like I'm visiting the Boston Fluevog store soon.
