Don't use this but good to know in the event I need to vaginal estrogen.

PS - The intent was good, even though you never thought you would make the post about the guys. ;-)

My apologies if this appears twice, I seem to have a technical issue here.

Since you are on this topic, could you tell us for how long vaginal estrogen can be safely applied weekly/bi-weekly? (as in weeks, months, years, decades.) Should one take breaks or can it be used without interruption? Many thanks in advance!!

You can use it as directed (usually twice weekly or the ring daily) for your entire life (assuming a pharmaceutical product and not compounded and used as directed)

Thanks for the article, I have been trying to find data on this with no luck.

What about oral sex? The cream is still present the day after application, can my partner absorb the estrogen orally if there is residual cream around my vulva?

There isn't any data, but as it is not formulated for oral absorption, I would follow the same rules. Just try to avoid contact within a few hours or application.

I have the same question

Interesting re: use on face. Years ago I heard (probably from a pharm rep) that Premarin on the face prevented? reduced? (I don't remember) wrinkes, and that MDs noticed that women on HRT had better skin.. I realize this is anecdotal, and perhaps even 'fraudulent' anecdotal.

I think it is the result of selection bias. People who can get MHT have always been more likely to have money as it si a proxy for access to health care.

Is it the relatively low and known dose of the estrogen vaginal cream than makes it less risky for people with a uterus than an estrogen face cream?

Expand full comment

Estrogen vaginal cream has been tested so we know exactly what gets absorbed and the impact on the uterus. None of this testing exists for the face cream. Also, there are no studies showing the face cream works, hence why I think prescribing it is unethical
