I read this with interest Dr. Gunter. Thank you for the detailed information. My daughter has had long standing anxiety and depression. Therapy and a trial of various medications didn’t work. I was in a state of constant worry. At the suggestion of a friend, I took her to a psychopharmacologist and he genetically tested her to see which drugs would work best for her. We discovered that she was in the red zone in terms of not being able to convert folate to L methyl folate and thus the SSRIs weren’t effective for her. She’s now on Deplin and Wellbutrin and she’s a different person. I was told she had to have gotten this gene mutation from a parent so I was genetically tested as well. I am also in the red zone. It makes me wonder if this relates to the miscarriages I had. One was at five months, the babies organs were growing outside the body. I did take prenatal vitamins but if the folate couldn’t convert, perhaps it didn’t do much for me? I find this a fascinating subject. I know from personal experience that the food supplement my daughter is taking combined with Wellbutrin has been life altering.
