The sad and enraging thing is having to recognize that this is an administration that hates women and wants to destroy our wellbeing, autonomy and independence. They want to return to days when women were wholly dependent on, and subservient to men, white men in particular. They want to get us back in the home bearing their children with no control over our own lives. The horrors will continue until people wake up and resist and vote these goons out of office, if we still have free and fair elections in the future.

I am also strongly of the opinion this has the evangelicals’ fingerprints all over it too. As Joselyn says above, they have brazenly said they want women back in the home, and some have even declared our right to vote should be stripped. Vance is onboard as well. He wants men back in the factories, and one-salary households. And of the white supremacists who want more white babies. Sick f*cks.

I'm so mad I'm spitting sparks. Six months ago if you could have told me the scientific method would be under fire in my lifetime, I would not have believed it. Somehow, the endless calls and emails to my reps aren't doing the trick.

Meanwhile, MAGAs want to spend money to convince more white women to have more babies (with the highest cost healthcare in the world, the highest infant and maternal mortality, no paid parental leave, no childcare support, and so on…) They really do think women are stupid!

My Turn by Holly Herzog's avatar

Just when I think I can’t handle another atrocity from this administration, one comes along that seems even more outrageous. I am sick over the loss of progress for women and all of the other minorities that are suffering from the decisions these men in power are making. Not waiting on a hero here, I’m writing and calling my representatives, sharing on my social media channels, and wringing my hands. All to no avail. Thank you for this information and for continuing to speak up for women.

Let's have a tax revolt!! Let's send our Federal Taxes to our State governments. With better local control, we can (hopefully) fund projects & services that Trump & Musk are defunding. At least our taxes won't go into billionaires' pockets, who don't even pay taxes!!

Like Aldous Huxley’s novel, Brave New World. I think of that often. I’m sure that’s what they have in mind down the road, especially natalists like elon.

I can't believe the political, social, and scientific nightmare we are living through. It is thoroughly scary and depressing. I'm glad my parents didn't live to see this.

Where is it all going to end? Will those with the political means have the guts & energy to fight this?

Male supremacy at its worse. Housemaids tale re visited as well.

What are your thoughts about Dr. Wolfman's study that was presented at the Menopause Societies conference last Sept? Also why do orthopedic doctors and general practitioners test vitamin D (the lab forms here have it listed) and suggest we take it if it does not help us at all? The WHI did use animal based hormones as well.

Also the Menopause Society position statement which is basically the same as the Canadian and International etc. lists all the benefits of using estrogen before and after the transition which includes vaginal dryness (which you have stated numerous times that the tissues dry become less elastic as women age which creates numerous issues), skin is less elastic as are the muscles and joints etc, preventing osteoarthritis (included in the information with the prescription of transdermal estrogen), depression, night sweats which the Menopause society states can last more than 10 years after the transition, and a host of other issues. Do we all not read what the society has published?

Hi Margaret, I am sure I have answered your question about Dr. Wolfman before. But just in case I did not, she did not present an oral presentation that I am aware of. If she had an abstract it may have been a poster or in a session I did not attend.

I can't tell you why so many people test vitamin D levels as it is not recommended for screening (asymptomatic individuals) https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2778487.

I believe I have answered your other questions in previous posts and in my Hormone Therapy Guide. You can search the table of contents there for the posts. Here is a short summary:

Premarin is the only natural hormone for MHT. The fact it comes from horse urine isn't a factor in its safety or efficacy, its chemical make is what is important. I believe I have mentioned the pros and cons of Premarin in several posts.

Vaginal dryness is not an indication for systemic hormones, as they are less effective for this.

The Menopause Society Guidelines do not recommend MHT for skin, and the KEEPS study did not show any benefit for wrinkles.

MHT is not recommended for muscles and there is no clinically significant loss of muscle associated with the menopause transition. The most recent meta-analysis shows that estrogen therapy is ineffective for counteracting age related loss of muscle mass.

The WHI showed a marginal benefit for joint pain. There are relatively few studies here. https://vajenda.substack.com/p/muscle-and-joint-pain-in-menopause

I have addressed transdermal vs oral in my menopause hormone therapy guide.

I have addressed depression in several posts. If you Google "Vajenda and depression" you should be able to find them.

I am not sure I understand what you mean by, "Do we all not read what the society has published."

I was right, I did reply to your question about Dr. Wolfman back on October 29. We had an change about it. If you go to my post from that day you can see it all. But I was correct. It was an abstract that I did not see because it was either in another session or a poster and you can’t see them all.

I am attaching the link to the short version of her study if you are interested. Dr. Wolfman (past president of the Canadian Menopause Society and presently on the board of the International Menopause Society) just received a 25 million dollar donation for research into women's health. https://menopause.org/press-releases/ongoing-individualized-hormone-therapy-appears-to-have-no-age-limit

I noted the percentage of women over 65 who go back to estrogen therapy due to night sweats/hot flashes and for joint related pain.

Thank you for responding. I was not able to see your response re Dr. Wolfman's study for some reason. I went back and read some of your blogs today, ones that I did not have access to prior to last year.

Wow, grim. I must admit that although I understand the whole WHI story and have done for a long time, before I caught myself my initial reaction was “oh well, at least it’s just that controversial study from years ago…”. So now I’m wondering if there was an additional method to the cancellation: Take the “controversial” study away first as women won’t mind so much and then move on to the rest.

Maybe Melinda will help.

Copied from Inside Medicine Substack...

The Women’s Health Initiative was apparently reversed, after widespread outcry. The WHI itself says it had been informed a couple of weeks ago that its longstanding funding was to vanish. But it also updated its website on Friday to say that it had not received any formal notification of the policy reversal reported in the media, leaving it in a place of “uncertainty.”
