Hi dr. Jen! I was wondering if you could make a post on why someone would have moderate to many white blood cells in wet mount but negative for the common pathogens? What are the potential reasons that would not require treatment?

I can't answer that question without knowing more, like age, quality of discharge, vaginal pH.

I see, so this is something to push the doctor for answers on?

I can't say what it means or doesn't mean without more information. I also would need to know why the test was being done, meaning what symptoms? If someone accidentally sampled the cervical fluid, there could be white blood cells. If someone is in menopause then it is likely from that. It could be due to trichomonas, and so an RNA test is needed to rule that out. But all the results have to be put in context with symptoms.

Only symptom is increased vaginal discharge and negative for all the common pathogens tested for on wet mount, and STD panel, abnormal results is moderate white blood cells, childbearing years, history of recurrent yeast and currently on fluconazole suppression. I know you can’t give medical advice but I was just curious what normal reasons there could be fore white blood cells.
